Clifford H. Hales

August 4, 1926 — January 3, 2019

Clifford H. “Cliff” Hales, age 92, of Chico, California, formerly of Versailles, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Tipton Oak Manor in Tipton.

He was born August 4, 1926, in Kansas City a son of Albert A. and Clara Belle Shell Hales.

Cliff grew up in the Kansas City area.  On November 22, 1944, he entered active duty in the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II; receiving his honorable discharge on August 17, 1946.

Cliff worked as a cartographer for the Federal Government in Kansas City for more than 20 years.

Following his retirement he stayed busy with woodworking and tinkering on anything mechanical.  He loved traveling in his RV and enjoyed all of the opportunities to see new places and meet new people.  He also looked forward to spending time with his daughters and their families.

He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Diana Holland of Warrensburg; Karen Miller and husband Jim of Georgetown, Idaho and Malenda Gibson and husband Mark of Versailles; six grandchildren, Chris Holland, Becky Holland, Michelle Lackey, Steve Miller, Tyler Gibson and Garrett Gibson, fifteen great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George Hales and one sister Doris Butler.

In keeping with his wishes his body was donated to the University of Missouri Gift of Body program for medical research.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville.
