Carol Miles

Carol Jean (Wadick) Miles, age 86, of Amarillo, TX, peacefully passed away June 3, 2025, in Amarillo after a brief illness.

She was born August 24, 1938, in Chapman, KS, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Wadick. Carol was united in marriage to John Marion (JM) Miles on July 20, 1957, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cole Camp, MO. JM predeceased Carol on September 21, 2014.

Carol moved with her family to the farm near Ivy Bend in Stover, MO in 1952 and was a 1956 graduate of Stover High School, where she met JM. She and JM lived their lives together and raised their children in Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Brussels, Belgium, and Texas. Carol and JM returned to Central Missouri and called Stover their home after JM retired from his career as a chemical engineer. After JM's death, Carol moved to Amarillo in 2018 to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Carol was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Amarillo and each Catholic parish where she lived. She and JM traveled the world together and graciously showed family and friends all over Western Europe during their five years living in Belgium. They also square danced in each hometown and made many lifelong friends on the dance circuit.

Carol was a gifted singer with a rich alto voice and some of her favorite times were spent singing with the PhilTones in Bartlesville, OK, and church choirs everywhere she lived. Carol made lifelong friends at each stop in her life and kept in touch with beautifully written letters. She never met a stranger and had an incredible sense of humor. She was also a talented cross stitcher making thoughtful gifts for family and friends and an avid reader.

Her greatest enjoyment, however, came from the time she could spend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As her grandchildren testified in social media:

"She was the most selfless, fun, funny, and loving person I've ever known."

"She taught me how to cook, how to sing, how to pour Cognac just right, how to get my ass kicked in Scrabble/ping pong/poker or any game really, how to laugh, and how to not take a single moment for granted."

"She never judged, was always understanding and said all she wanted for me was to have somebody to hug everyday. While she might be gone now, she is around in every single one of us and the mark she left will go on."

"Grandma used to tell me that you would gain a star on your crown in heaven for every good deed that you did on earth. I know she has the most beautiful crown with a billion stars."

She is survived by four children and their spouses: Robin Miles of Boulder, CO, Dawn Rich (Thomas) of Lakeway, TX, Eileen Fox (Mark) of Amarillo, and Andrew Miles of Lubbock, TX; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Donna Jones (Robert) of Kansas City, KS, Margaret Sue "Peggy" McCaw of Tulsa, OK, and Joelle Jones (Ray) of Dixon, MO; seven grandchildren and their spouses and partners: Garrett Spradling, Jansyn Cunyus (Coe), Eric Miles (Ashley), Sarah Cole (Richard), Patrick Rich (Eva), MC Miles, and Melanie Rich (Shanna); and nine great grandchildren: Stacie, Stephanie, Kellen, RyLee, Jackson Mason, Emilla, Lorenzo, Nigel, and Adam; and many God children, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Charles McCaw; her daughter-in-law, Dara Lynn Miles; and her grandson, Gannon Spradling.

The family thanks the incredible caregivers from BSA Hospice of the Southwest who took amazing care of Carol the last 14 months, especially Janna Colvin.

A visitation will be Sunday, July 13, from 3-5:00 p.m. at Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home, 204 W 3rd St, Stover, MO 65078, with readings at 4:00 p.m.

A funeral Mass followed by burial will be held at St. Philip Benizi Church, 17034 Hwy D, Versailles, MO 65084, Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
