C. Margie Salyer

Margie Salyer, age 82, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

She was born September 20, 1924, in Nashville, Tennessee to Earl Carlton and Jennie Ann (Warren) Jordan. Her parents moved to Springfield when she was a young girl. She attended Reed Jr. High School and graduated in 1942, from Springfield High School.

She met her future husband when they both were children and lived three houses from each other. She married Milo Raymond Salyer in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was stationed in the Army Air Corps, on May 2, 1943. While Milo was stationed overseas, Margie returned to Springfield where she worked as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone company.

In Springfield their two children, James Milo and Eugenie were born. They raised their children in Springfield, with Margie not working, but staying at home until July 1, 1969. On that date they moved to Versailles, after purchasing the Pioneer Restaurant, where they both worked until Milo retired in 1985. She later worked at Wini's Fashions in Versailles, for several years.

While in Springfield, Margie was active in PTA, LaSertoma and the church they attended, Boulevard Baptist Church, where she participated in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the WMU.

Living in Versailles, Margie was active in her Sorosis club, Rolling Hills County Club and the Missouri Restaurant Association. She and Milo were members, and attended regularly, the Versailles United Methodist Church.

She leaves behind her daughter, Eugeanie "Jeanie" Malick and husband Jim, of West Virginia; three sisters, Vera Mae Wingo and husband Billy and Betty Dodd and husband Jack, of Springfield; and Judy McCowan and husband Maxie of Nixa; five grandchildren, Tom Leeper and wife Jenny of Seattle, Wash.; Leslie Schottel and husband Derrick, of Gladstone, Mo., Jimmy Leeper of Doha Qatar; Tim Leeper and wife Erica of Valley Park, Mo., and Michael Carey of Warrensburg, Mo., five great grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Julian and Sammy Schottel and Sidney Mila Leeper, 12 nieces and nephews, several cousins and their families and many friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Earl Carlton Jordan, Jr., her husband, Milo in 1995, her son, Jim in 2002 and one sister, Norma Lee Jordan in 2003.

Funeral services were Sunday, June 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles, Mo., with Pastor Barry Fielder officiating. Virginia Ross played the instrumental selection "He Touched Me".

Graveside services were Monday, June 25, at the Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield with her son-in-law, Pastor Jim Malick officiating. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
