Beverly J. Hardey

Beverly Jean Hardey, age 85, of Versailles, passed away Friday morning, May 17, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born December 28, 1933, on the family farm in Florence a daughter of Louis Alexander and Myrtle Louise Page Mertgen.
On June 7, 1952, at St. John United Church of Christ in Florence, Bev was united in marriage to Edwin Harold “Slim” Hardey. Slim preceded her in death November 5, 2001.
She was a graduate of Otterville Hig h School.
Bev was a homemaker, busy raising four daughters. Through the years she was employed with the Ben Franklin Store, Wal-Mart, Good Shepherd Nursing Home, the Nutrition Site and Scrivner Funeral Home and Ambulance Service, all located in Versailles. She was also a gifted seamstress; sewing for many local residents in the area.
She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. She also volunteered for several years with the local 4-H groups, teaching knitting to several of the members.
Bev was very creative and was always busy knitting, crocheting, making quilts and painting. In her spare time she also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, working in her garden and bird watching. She didn’t know a stranger and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone, at any time. She was an animal lover and took great joy in caring for, and being with, her beloved dogs. However, her greatest enjoyment came from her family, especially when she could spend time with her girls and grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Brenda and Speed Branch, Sr. of Versailles; Ruby O’Bryan of Versailles; Betty and David Avey of Versailles and Tabetha and Matt Sutton of Clarksburg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Woodall of Florence and Mary and Charles Goode of California; seven grandchildren, Chad Hardey, Speed Branch, Jr., Tim Avey and wife Jennifer, Tina Yeager and husband Travis, Leah Wagoner and husband Barry, Daniel Sutton and David Sutton, seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Brianna and June Avey, Madison Lucas-Avey, Cassie Yeager, Bryer Shackelford and Allison Shackelford.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Chris O’Bryan.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Lora Cunningham officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the MU Extension for Morgan County 4-H Clubs or the Good Shepherd Care Center Activities Fund.
