Betty Jo Bunfill, 93, of Otterville, MO, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born March 12, 1933, in Marshfield, MO, the daughter of M.I. and Lois (Carrick) Stokes.
On March 3, 1975, she was united in marriage to M. Glenn Bunfill, who preceded her in death on June 5, 2005.
At the age of 12, Betty came to know the Lord and was baptized in the James River. Her faith remained a central part of her life, and she faithfully served the Lord and His church for many years. She taught Sunday School and Bible studies, served as president of associational-level WMU, and traveled throughout Arizona teaching and encouraging other Sunday School teachers. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Otterville.
Betty attended school in Mesa, AZ, and Great Bend, KS, and later attended Mesa Community College.
She enjoyed reading, crafting, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and simple woodworking. Betty cherished her family and the time they shared together.
She has now entered into the presence of the One she loved and served. We can imagine the words of her Savior: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
She is survived by two sons, Randy Slocum (Debbie), of Marshfield, and Rev. Russ Slocum (Sandra), of Otterville; five grandchildren, Christina, Amanda, Chris, Danielle, and TJ; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Merlin Slocum; a granddaughter, Jennifer Mikayla Slocum; a sister, Patricia Bartlett; and two brothers, Bob Stokes and Arthur Stokes.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Otterville.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Smith’s Chapel Cemetery in Gainesville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Otterville.
