Bernard "Barney" Miller, age 72, of Barnett passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his home.
It was the 8th day in April of 1949 when John Edward and Florence Collier Miller welcomed their sweet son, Bernard John, into their family in Spokane, Washington.
On July 4, 1969 in Oak Harbor, Washington, Barney was united in marriage to Donna Riggs, who survives at their home.
Barney served his country in the United States Navy as a machine repairman, eventually retiring from the Navy to spend time with his family. When he first joined the Navy, Barney wanted to be a photographer; instead, he worked on jets on the USS John F. Kennedy.
He was a faithful member of the West Union Baptist Church.
Barney liked to ride motorcycles and was a founding member of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Never one to sit still, Barney had many hobbies. He liked classic cars and hunting and fishing when he was younger. Most recently he took up learning about blacksmithing and got himself an anvil and forge. He also liked a challenge, when he lived in San Diego, he built a 10ft sailboat in the upstairs bedroom and very skillfully was able to get it down the curved stairway to be able to sail it and eventually sell it.
The greatest enjoyment Barney had was spending time with his family.
Those left to carry on Barney's legacy are his wife of 52 years, Donna; two daughters, Merrie Runyan and husband Mark of Eldon and Laurie Hepler and husband Robert of Puyallup, Washington; two grandchildren, Samuel and Holly Hepler; two brothers, Harvey Miller and wife Carol of Barnett and Joe Miller and wife Glenda of Latham.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Versailles.
