Arthur "Art" Patrick Young

Arthur Patrick “Art” Young, age 69, of Florence passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.

He was born February 6, 1948 in Saint Paul, MN, a son of John Patrick and Bernice Harriet Steinmuller Young.   Art was married to Joyce Lewis Young, December 23, 1981 who survives him.

He was a 1966 graduate of Saint Croix Lutheran High School in Saint Paul, MN.

He was a Navy veteran who served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967 – 1975 receiving the following; National Defense Service, Good Conduct, and two Vietnam Service medals.

In 1984 he graduated Cum Laude from National University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree and received his Masters of Business in 2013.

For most of his career he worked as a Quality Engineer in California for Naval Ocean Systems Center and various private contractors before moving to Florence.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Florence, serving as a Sunday school teacher and Chairman of Deacons.

Art was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of California – East San Diego Lodge No. 561, a Valley of San Diego 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, and Order of the Eastern Star 1993 Past Patron.

In addition to Joyce, his wife of 36 years, he is survived by his mother and stepfather, Bernice and Phillip Girgen of Maplewood, MN, his son, John Arthur Tam, of Spring Valley, CA, daughter, April Barker of El Cajon, CA, brother, Donald Young of Rush City, MN, and seven step siblings and their spouses; Joe and Sue Girgen of Rosemount, MN, Jeff and Linda Girgen, John and Jean Girgen all of St. Paul, MN, Janet and Doug Hince of Sartell, MN, Jim and Jerry Girgen of Hastings, MN, and Joyce and Russel Townsend of Saulk Rapids, MN, and two grandchildren Derrick and Brandee Barker in El Cajon, CA.

Art was preceded in death by his father John Patrick of Saint Paul, MN.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by funeral services at 11:00 Monday September 11 th , at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Steve Robinson officiating.  Interment, with military funeral honors, will be at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Florence, after the services. Jack Lewis, Lee Brawley, Chris Dargan, Jeff Nolting, Larry Smith, and Chris Robinson will serve as pallbearers. Jerry Conner, Bob Hock, Wayne Tucker, and Jimmy Nolting are honorary pallbearers.
