Alvin Oscar Fischer

Alvin O. Fischer, age 76, of Lohman, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Westbrook Terrace Assisted Living Center in Jefferson City.
He was born June 6, 1932, in Lohman, a son of John Gustav and Erma Christina Linsenbardt Fischer. He was baptized June 3, 1932 and confirmed March 30, 1947, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman.
Alvin was an Army veteran, serving his country in Korea during the Korean War.
He was a lifelong farmer. Alvin worked as a mechanic and also as a carpenter, helping to build Steve's Restuarant at the Junction of C and D. He had been a salesman for Lohman Milling and retired as a custodian from the Cole County R-I School District.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Lohman and a member of VFW Post 1003, where he served on the honor guard.
He enjoyed spending time at the local coffee shops, playing cards and visiting with friends.
Survivors include two brothers, Raymond Fischer and wife Nola of Russellville and Gus Fischer Jr. and wife Jeannette of Lohman; one sister, Marie Fischer of Jefferson City; sister-in-law, Margaret Fischer Minor of Jefferson City; also nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hilbert and Rudolph Fischer and three sisters, Dorothea, Margaret and Gertrude Fischer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 18, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman with Pastor Ed Merckel officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul's Perpetual Cemetery Fund or St. Paul's Sanctuary Window Renovation Fund.
