Alta Swofford

Alta J. Swofford, age 89, of Stover passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Golden Age Living Center.
It was January 18, 1932 when Thomas and Emma Mooney Pogue welcomed their baby girl, Alta into their family in Eminence.
She was united in marriage to Harold Swofford on September 15, 1951.
Alta dedicated many years working as a glass sanitizer for St. Louis Medical School.
Music was something that Alta very much enjoyed. She liked to write music, sing, and play country music on the guitar. Alta was talented enough to get the opportunity to perform on KSTL Station in St. Louis. She also sang Ozark Gospel music.
In addition to her husband, Harold, those left to carry on her legacy are two sons, Carl Swofford and wife Mary of Illinois and Darrel Swofford and wife Rose of Missouri; one brother, Cecil Pogue and wife Lily of Stover; four grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Alta was preceded in death by four brothers, Willard, Merele, Amos Lee, and Benjamine Pogue and four sisters, Lucille Whittle, Beulah Thorson, Bessie McCoy, and Mary Dale Gray.
Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover with Pastor Danny Owsley officiating. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover.
